Oh, Obama…

So Obama is the next US president. It’s so amazing how people liken him to a messiah. What a campaign…a subtle hint of divinity. He is a Black Superman in a Black Suit.

I read about Indians celebrating Obama’s victory and Inauguration. Does anybody even know the effect of this major event on India? I mean sure he will try and resurrect the US economy and thus it will help our economy and the wars will end. But in a conflict, we are least likely to get support from the Obama Govt. Sure he eats Indian food, but that doesn’t mean that during an Indo-Pak conflict, he is likely to say – ‘Man, these Indians make some very nice food, maybe we should support them’ (by the way what’s with the hype about Tandoori Chicken? People were raving about how Bill Clinton eats Tandoori Chicken).  Pakistan has access to most of Islamic world, why would he want to back a country with many religions that is hated by the Islamic world?

From a social, humanitarian perspective it’s great – first black president of US. But Obama’s presidency will be a difficult one, politically, for India.

  1. I think the US is kinda getting pissed off with Pakistan, because the war on terrorism needs a face, and that face is Osama. Once they capture him, the government can spin this into a victory, and most people will buy it. And its becoming more and more clear that he’s in Pakistan, so I can see them going after Pakistan.

No matter what the US does, the Islamic world will hate them. The cultures are too far apart to co-exist without tension. Its not like the US could do some kinda good deed, and the Islamic world will start to praise the US.

I can see the US siding with India for 2 reasons. One, India is an emerging power in the world (with China) thus it is more of an attractive ally than Pakistan in terms of power, and two is the Osama problem.

    • Ironically Islam and Christianity is quite similar. I think the Osama card cannot be played anymore.
Also, we can never beat the US AND Pak. You have fanaticsm + military power working against one democracy.
