You don’t know what you’ve got until you’ve said goodbye

Interviewer on Aug 15: So what does Aug 15 and Freedom mean to you?

Interviewee: It means I get a holiday ha ha ha ha!

*pained expression on interviewer’s face*

Do you know what it is like to be hungry because you have been deprived of food? What it is like to eat grass, because you need something to eat?Or what it is to know that you are running out of money and can’t think of any way to earn more or find more? What it is like to not speak because if you did, you might get caught? And this is just not emotional and psychological repression but also aggression of the physical.

Do you know what it is to lose hope? Do you know what it is to give up and die or be caught by the hunter because you can’t run anymore? because you are too tired to? when you can’t speak your mind because it would lead to more punishment? To feel panic every waking moment? To hear sirens and wonder when someone was going to enter your house? When you want to cry and you can’t because you have no time to or the strength to?

And this what these people face: the holocaust victims, People in the war zones like Kashmir, the people of Africa, the victims of genocide, the victims of religion, the victims of hate..

And what freedom do we know? We are educated fools. We have the arrogance of an education. I know that if I lost this job and was in dire need of money I would always have more options than most people.
We arrogant because we have never been smothered. Which is why we get frustrated when we deal with insecure bosses with no vision or leadership. Or teachers or professors that come and teach for the heck of it. Or politicians who only talk the talk, or army majors with just a gun which was last used in the uprising of 1857 and no night vision goggles to protect us.

So what does freedom mean to you?
